Stump removal in Monroe: acreage, pasture edges and cleared homesites
Around Monroe, stumps tend to come in groups. Much of the wooded acreage up Woods Creek and along the foothills north and east of town has been logged before, and owners are still working old stumps out of pasture edges, homesites and trails. Down in the Skykomish valley, bigleaf maple, cottonwood and alder along fence lines leave stumps that resprout. This is where stump removal with a track machine makes sense: multiple stumps, large stumps and wide root flares spread across a big lot.
We start by counting and marking every stump, measuring each widest ground-line root flare, and walking the route between them. On big lots the plan usually depends on the ground more than the stumps: soft pasture in winter, slopes and creek banks. We also settle what the ground is for next, since a hay field, a lawn and a shop pad each need a different grind depth and chip plan.
