Gravel driveway re-crowning in Bellingham: Chuckanut, Lake Whatcom and the hills
Outside Bellingham's paved grid, many gravel driveways climb through fir and cedar on the Chuckanut side, around Lake Samish, and along the hills above Lake Whatcom toward Geneva and Sudden Valley. Those drives are short on flat ground and long on grade. Rain that falls on the slope above ends up running down the driveway, and without a crown or cross-slope it follows the wheel tracks until they turn into ruts and washouts.
Re-crowning a hillside drive is about controlling where water goes at each bend. We walk it from top to bottom, note where runoff enters, where it can safely leave, and which switchbacks have lost their shape. The PR121 reopens the surface and pulls rock back from the ditch line, and hydraulic angle lets us set the cross-slope section by section. Culvert or ditch changes are quoted separately.
