Private road and shared lane re-crowning on Camano Island
Camano Island is reached by the SR-532 bridge from Stanwood, and away from the main roads most homes sit on gravel: private roads shared through a road association, long drives through fir and madrone, and lanes that drop toward the beach below the bluffs. Those roads carry neighbors, delivery trucks and summer visitors, then sit under dripping trees all winter. Re-crowning is usually the difference between a lane that sheds water and one that holds it.
Many Camano roads are shared, so we walk the full length with whoever can attend and look at each section's slope, shade and rock depth. The PR121 reopens the surface and pulls stray rock back from the edges, then we rebuild the crown. Where a lane runs toward a bluff, we are careful about where the water is sent. Steep slopes and shorelines can carry county rules, so we check before work.
