Gravel driveway grading for Granite Falls foothill drives
Granite Falls is the gateway to the Mountain Loop Highway, sitting where the lowlands meet the Cascade foothills between the Pilchuck River and the South Fork Stillaguamish. Driveways here climb through second-growth fir and hemlock, often over rocky, uneven ground. Foothill rain arrives hard and runs down any drive that lets it. Gravel driveway grading on these slopes is about controlling water, with a cross-slope and edges that let runoff leave early.
On the assessment we follow the water from the top of the drive down, looking for where it enters, where it leaves and where it has already cut ruts or exposed cobble. We check whether the rock is still usable and whether bedrock or boulders sit close to the surface. The PR121 then reshapes the running surface. Rebuilding a failed base or adding culverts is priced separately.
